Why AJVC? PDF Print

The AJVC is still young. It was legalized on 17 August 2000, this on the basis of 4 years of activities representing their founding members. In 1999, the founding members of the Association and its partners have initiated, coordinated and directed the first National Youth Forum on the Environment (report available). A resolution was adopted by the participants for the establishment of a platform. On this basis, the AJVC decided to implement this resolution by the establishing the national network of young environmental actors (RNJAE) in Cameroon, which was conducted in collaboration with MINEF, GTZ and YAC Advisor.


The representative of the AJVC (Councillor YAC) with MINEF GTZ toured throughout the provinces of Cameroon in early 2000. They visited the Provincial Delegations and Departments, MINEF and MINEDUC, schools, High Schools and Colleges, Universities and other environmental groups and organizations. An investigation was conducted at the activity level of these players, the obstacles they faced, their needs and proposals for the establishment of the network and gather their opinions on the initiative of J & E program After the consultation process of local environmental groups and actors, the Youth and Environment initiated by the YAC Advisor to support the network after the forum was updated and supplemented by other proposals. Activities were conducted within time to consolidate the initiative and seek further advice to national and international levels.

In November 2000, Association Jeunesse Verte du Cameroon was formally established with an office that would coordinate the programs J & E. More than 300 groups of young actors and volunteers have joined the major provinces and adhere to the cause defended by the AJVC their way. 1999 - 2008: AJVC in some actions and activities carried out a headlight. December 1999: First National Youth Forum on environment. In December 1999, the Youth Advisory Council in partnership with the GTZ project "Advisor MINEF and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry organized for the first time a national forum for young environmental actors held in Yaounde from 16 to 18 December 1999. It was to launch the global campaign on sustainable consumption, organized by members of the Youth Council of UNEP in their respective countries including Yac Councillors. A national competition was introduced in all secondary schools in Cameroon: "Best idea and action undertaken on sustainable consumption and environment," Best artwork on the theme "Water for Life - Water for life. Representatives of schools and colleges across the country were invited to participate in the National Youth Forum. Several hundred young people were expected for the first two days of 16 and 17 to participate in discussions on sustainable consumption in Cameroon and 150 participants were present. The recommendations of the Youth Forum was submitted to the Government of Cameroon and partners of civilian life. They should also sent to World Youth Council, working under the auspices of the United Nations. The last day of the December 18 was devoted to a large popular Fair, with entertainment in the stands, games, contests, music and dances, sports and races, until the official closing at mid-day,to which prizes were given to winners of various competitions. A big dance party was hosted by young and dynamic groups to close the festival. The media, radio, television and press were invited to cover the major event which will mobilized massive Cameroonian youths just before the year 2000. Young volunteers received the approval of MINEF for organizing the Forum. MINEF pledged to support by all means this initiative and called on the part of all the potential partners. They also argue, the extent of their respective means, the operation symbol of dynamic young Cameroonians who forced to ensure that their environment were properly managed at the dawn of the third millennium. After the forum, six resolutions were adopted:

The developement and implementation of an outreach strategy and appropriate information (that is to say, using awareness materials for youth), for the environment and sustainable consumption of resources. Such a strategy will be oriented toward a public course but with special emphasis on policy makers, women and youth.

* Make proposals to include environmental issues in curricula and textbooks in a design that takes into account the aspirations of youths, especially by illustrating stories, poems and music.

* To promote among young people and an ethic of life and ecological behavior. In particular, educate by example, ("Best Practices"), encouraging more thoughtful actions and clean their passages, help organize competitions hygiene and sanitation in communities and neighborhoods, etc..

* Initiate and implement concrete actions. For example, engage in reforestation and the creation of green spaces, recycling garbage and waste.

* Encourage the organization of youth associations and groups increasingly structured for joint lobbying, capacity building of youth mobilization of resources.

Ultimately, it became essential partners for listed instances of environmental policies orientation at all levels (local, regional, national and international). 6) Create, make and use a functional network of youth for the environment. 2. February-May 2001: National tour of Cameroon. After the decision of implementing the resolution and definition of predictive Actors Environmental Youth Network of Cameroon, a national tour was organized across the country with the technical and financial support of the GTZ project "Advisor Near MINEF" in partnership with the Youth Advisory Council YAC and MINEF. This national tour was launched with an objective of establishing the National Network of Young Environmental Actors and judge the importance of the initiative of Youth and Environment Program took contact with the various environmental public high schools, Private colleges, universities, associations and NGOs in Cameroon; collected as much information: activities during the year, problems (barriers), proposals from the network to develop a program of action for the National Network for Young Environmental Actors taking into account the specificities of each of the regions of Cameroon, which have been collected during the national tour. Role of each partner in the national tour: The GTZ project "Advisor Near MINEF" was represented by Carole Nkoa, responsible communication: its action brought forward the general project and its activities, to justify involvement in the project in creating network, to present the actions of the GTZ in Cameroon and its environmental policy, to explain the objectives of the mission: making contact, the interface between MINEF, YAC, check logframe J & E. The Youth Advisory Council represented by YAC Councillors, Tamoifo Nkom Mary and initiator of the project promoted and facilitated the activities of young actors: development commitments, opinions, talents and initiatives, identifying actors and their activities at national level, educate and inform youth leaders and start creating the National Network of Young Actors The Environmental Ministry of Environment and Forests was represented by Florence Ossendé mission, institutional support to the network, the presentation MINEF: Role and activities of the political body making contact with the provincial and divisional delegations (future relay network) The results of the tour were:

• The massive membership national network

• Directory of young enviromental actors

• Collection of proposals for action plan to develop and clarify the perception of the Youth and Environment Mary Tamoifo.

• Listing of issues / activities encountered by the young actors (Report available at the tour headquarters).

Tout cela doit être soutenu par une génération de leaders éclairés, engagés qui jouissent des fruits de l’intégration politique, économique et sociale, concrétisée par l’aisance de la circulation des idées, des biens et des personnes.

Ainsi, la structure sera une organisation d’accompagnement de transformation sociale pour les organisations de jeunes et de femmes sur le plan socio institutionnel, économique et environnemental pour l’épanouissement et le mieux être des jeunes.

 Missions

Il s’agit d’une part d’accroitre la participation et l’implication effective de la jeunesse et de dans les divers changements qui au quotidien s’opèrent au niveau local, national et international. D’autre part, de promouvoir les talents, idées et initiatives des jeunes, ceci en suscitant en eux le sens de la pro activité, de la responsabilité et de la liberté, gage pour un développement durable. Dans ce  sens, en opérant  un leadership politique en direction des plus hautes autorités des Etats Africains, l’AJVC, accompagne et appuie  lesdits Etats dans le processus de mise en œuvre  de la politique  de la nation à travers sa force de proposition, à travers les actions concrètes de terrain, puis  le suivi des initiatives et programmes tant  au niveau national qu’international  via ses délégués de la jeunesse en Afrique soutenus par leur diaspora.
